Requirements:
Education hours required for a real estate salesperson license in the state of Arkansas: 60 classroom hours of real estate education (of which 30 classroom hours must be in basic principles of real estate) from an accredited postsecondary school or a school or organization licensed by the Arkansas Real Estate Commission (ACA Sect. 17-42-303 and Commission Regulation 4.1)
Hours required for real estate broker license in the state of Arkansas: 60 hours of real estate education (of which 45 hours must be the Commission-developed broker pre-license education course) from an accredited postsecondary school or a school or organization licensed by the Arkansas Real Estate Commission within 36 months immediately preceding the date of applying to take the broker's exam (ACA Sect. 17-42-303 and Commission Regulation 4.1)
The Arkansas Real Estate Commission’s (AREC) requires 18 classroom hours of post-license real estate courses for a new salesperson. These must be taken within 12 months after the date the individual was initially licensed. For example, after paying the license fee(s) in March of this year, a licensee should complete his or her post-license real estate classes by the end of March the following year. A new broker must complete the 30-classroom-hour AREC post-license course within 12 months after the date the individual was initially licensed. (A.C.A. §17-42-307(d)(2), §17-42-303(c)(1), (2), Commission Regulation 11.5)
Reciprocity:
Real estate commissions and boards across the country are adopting policies for a real estate agents in one state to more easily become licensed in another state. AREC has entered into reciprocal agreements with the following states: Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Louisana, Mississippi, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Washington and West Virginia.
Continuing Education (CE) and License Renewal Requirements:
In order to renew your real estate license in Arkansas, real estate CE classes need to be completed by December 31st every year. The required 7 hours of continuing education classes must include 1 hour of agent safety–related topics and a 3-hour Real Estate Forms and Contracts course for the corresponding Salesperson or Broker license level. Licenses need to be renewed by September 30.

Arkansas Real Estate Appraisal Licensing Requirements

Licensure Requirements to Become an Appraiser
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must have a good reputation for honesty, truthfulness, and fair dealing and be competent to transact business
• Must meet the educational requirement for the applying level of appraiser licensure • Must meet the experience requirement for the applying level of appraiser licensure • For Certified Residential level: A minimum of an Associate’s Degree OR 21 college semester hours in specific subject matters is also required
• For Certified General level: A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree OR 30 college semester hours in specific subject matters is also required • Satisfactory completion of the state examination
• Submit application, required documents, and associated fees
Appraiser School Education Requirements
• State Registered Appraisers must take the 15 hour USPAP course or its equivalent
• 150 hours for the State Licensed Appraiser which consist of the following appraiser courses: Basic Appraisal Principles (30 hours), Basic Appraisal Procedures (30 hours), 15 Hour National USPAP Course or its equivalent (15 hours), Residential Market Analysis and Highest and Best Use (15 hours), Residential Appraiser Site Valuation and Cost Approach (15 hours), Residential Report Writing and Case Studies (15 Hours), Residential Sales Comparison and Income Approach (30 hours)
• 200 Hours for the Certified Residential Real Property Appraiser which consist of the same 150 hours of Licensed Appraiser education AND: Statistics, Modeling and Finance (15 hours), Advanced Residential Application and Case Studies (15 hours), Appraisal Subject Matter Electives (20 hours)
• 300 hours for the Certified General Real Property Appraiser which includes the same 200 hours for the Certified Residential Real Property Appraiser education AND: General Appraiser Sales Comparison and Income Approach (15 hours), General Appraiser Site Valuation and Cost Approach (15 hours), General Appraiser Income Approach (45 hours), General Appraiser Report Writing and Case Studies (10 hours), General Appraiser Market Analysis and Highest and Best Use (15 hours)
Experience Requirements for Becoming an Appraiser
• State Registered Appraiser – no work experience requirement
• Licensed Residential Appraiser – 2000 hours in not less than 12 months
• Certified Residential Real Property Appraiser – 2500 hours in at least 24 months
• Certified General Real Property Appraiser – 3000 hours in at least 30 months with at least 1500 hours of experience in nonresidential appraisals
Continuing Education Requirements for Appraiser License Renewal
• State Registered Appraiser licenses expire annually on December 31st
• All State Registered Appraisers must complete the 15 hour National USPAP or its equivalent prior to their first annual renewal
• In subsequent years, the State Registered Appraiser must complete 14 hours per year of continuing education and must complete the 7 hour National USPAP Update course or its equivalent with the two year cycle
• All other licensees expire annually on June 30th
• All licensees must complete 28 hours of continuing education appraiser classes within a two year cycle in an even numbered year
• At least 7 hours of this requirement must cover the USPAP Update course or its equivalent
