Requirements:
Education hours required for a real estate salesperson license in the state of Florida: 63 hours
Education hours required for a real estate broker license in the state of Florida: 72 hours
Florida also requires 45 hours of post-license classes for salespersons and 60 hours for brokers.
Reciprocity:
Real estate commissions and boards across the country are adopting policies for a real estate agents in one state to more easily become licensed in another state. Florida has mutual recognition agreements with seven states: Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Mississippi and Nebraska. Mutual recognition allows out-of-state licensees to apply as a sales associate or broker in Florida exempting them from the pre-license education requirement. They are still required, however, to take the 40- question Florida Laws section of the state exam.
Continuing Education (CE) and License Renewal Requirements:
Real estate professionals in Florida need to renew their licenses by March 31st or September 30, every 2 years. The renewal date that applies to you depends on when you initially took your licensing exam and should be indicated on your real estate license. By this date, licensees need to complete 14 hours of real estate CE. These real estate classes consist of 8 hours of specialty credit, 3 hours dedicated to an update of Florida laws and 3 hours of an ethics and business practices course. These courses may be conducted in a classroom or via a distance education provider.
Florida Real Estate Appraisal Licensing Requirements

The information contained below is designed to provide a summary of the minimum education, experience, and examination requirements established by the Florida Board of Real Estate Appraisers. The information provided below can be found on the Board’s website. However, we recommend you contact the Board for more detailed information and for any changes which may have occurred.
Licensure Levels

Licensure Requirements to Become an Appraiser
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must have a high school diploma or its equivalent
• Must meet the educational requirement for the applying level of appraiser licensure
• Must meet the experience requirement for the applying level of appraiser licensure
• For Certified Residential level: A minimum of an Associate’s Degree OR 21 college semester hours in specific subject matters is also required
• For Certified General level: A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree OR 30 college semester hours in specific subject matters is also required
• Satisfactory completion of the state examination
• Submit application, required documentation (including fingerprint card) and associated fees
Appraiser School Education Requirements
• 100 hours for the Registered Trainee which consist of the following appraiser courses: Basic Appraisal Principles (30 hours), Basic Appraisal Procedures (30 hours), 15 Hour National USPAP Course or its equivalent (15 hours) Residential Report Writing (15 hours), Florida Law, Rules and Procedures (15)

Experience Requirements for Becoming an Appraiser
• Registered Trainee Appraiser – no work experience requirement
• Certified Residential Appraiser - 2500 hours over at least 24 months since the first appraisal
• Certified General Appraiser - 3000 hours gained continuously over at least 30 months since the first appraisal
Post License Requirements for Maintaining a Trainee Appraiser License
• All trainee appraisers that wish to remain in the trainee category must complete 45 hours of post-licensing appraiser education inclusive of the 15 hour USPAP course or its equivalent and the 3 hour Florida Law Update
• This requirement must be completed by the second renewal period following the issuance of the license
Continuing Education Requirements for Appraiser License Renewal
• All licensees must complete 30 hours of continuing education appraiser classes every 2 years
• A minimum of 3 hours must be dedicated to a review and update of the FL Real Estate Appraisal Law and Board Rules, and provide an introduction to other state and federal laws affecting real estate appraisals
• At least 7 hours of this requirement must cover the USPAP Update course or its equivalent
